Ray & Dot’s has been one of Greendale’s main social spots for 60 years. In 1957, the Legion was looking for someone to operate a tavern on the first floor. Ray & Dorothy (Dot) Koepsel responded and opened up Ray & Dot’s Tavern. And as they say, ‘The rest is history!’ In 1969, the American Legion moved into their new building on Grange Avenue and tore down the old one. Ray & Dot’s then moved with them and have been there ever since.
Marc Koepsel, Ray and Dorothy’s son, purchased the tavern 1995. He attributes the long success to his parents’ belief in the neighborhood aspect of the business, a safe and comfortable, friendly place to socialize close to home. Marc has worked hard to maintain that belief and the formula for success has not changed. The crowd is usually local, from Greendale, Greenfield, Franklin and Hales Corners. Patrons can enjoy the pool table, darts, a jukebox, baggo in the summertime, and of course, the low drink prices!
Ray & Dot’s has maintained a successful landlord/tenant relationship with the American Legion for 60 years. Families, businesses, and organizations host retirement, anniversary, birthday, and graduation parties by renting the American Legion hall and using Ray & Dot’s services.
So, stop in with friends, enjoy some drinks and food and be a part of the Greendale tradition that Ray & Dot’s has created!
